Mickie Sage

Mickie joined the Redfield staff in the winter of 2008. She came from her home in Denver, Colorado to help ride and train the sale horses at Redfield. Mickie brought Cocknito CH, owned by Shannon Strom of Castle Rock, CO along with her.

Cocknito CH
1999 - 2008

Cocknito CH was euthanized in the early morning hours of November 9, 2008, at UC Davis near Sacramento. He was warming up for the Sacramento International Horse Show's $75,000 World Cup Qualifier. He jumped the last warm up fence, before heading to the ring to compete, cantered 3 strides away when he took a bad step and shattered his right front P1. UC Davis's vets were on site and expeditiously attended to him, had him splinted in the schooling area and had him transported to the UC Davis clinic. Unfortunately, his fractures were too severe to save him.

Cocknito CH was a 9 year old Swiss Warmblood gelding owned by Shannon Strom and Katie Shannon of Castle Rock, Colorado and ridden by Mickie Sage of Denver, CO. He was imported in December of 2006 by Redfield Farm for Katie and Shannon from Stal Hendrix in the Netherlands. Cocknito showed in the Young Jumper division until December of 2007. In 2008, he stepped into the Grand Prix arena. This was his first year of Grand Prix competition and he was showing promise of a true international champion. Just the week prior, at the Las Vegas National Horse Show, Cocknito CH and Mickie were second in the $50,000 World Cup Qualifier which was only their 3rd qualifier ever.

Cocknito CH will be greatly missed. It was only just the beginning of a promising career.
